Researchers in Leipzig show how green roofs and rainwater management can reduce urban heat. Also: climate change, biodiversity loss and the growing threat posed by invasive species.

This time we look at the close links between climate change, biodiversity, and human well-being, following scientists investigating how green roofs and innovative rainwater management can help cities adapt to rising temperatures. We also examine how climate change is transforming ecosystems and why biodiversity is essential for healthy forests, fertile soil, pollination, and natural pest control. Growing pressure on insects and other species is yet another highlight, as well as the risks posed by invasive pests such as the Japanese beetle. Together, these stories reveal why - in a warming world - protecting biodiversity is vital for resilient ecosystems and sustainable cities.
