She served as deputy US special envoy for Yemen and was a member of the White House National Security Council during Donald Trump’s first term in office. In a new article she co-authored for “Foreign Policy,” she argues that President Trump must learn the diplomatic art of “losing well”:
“That is what ending the war requires: not an admission of defeat but a claim to victory on different terms from the ones Trump set for himself at the outset. The war was never going to end with Iran’s unconditional surrender."
