Charlie Kirk was killed during an event at Utah Valley University. At his memorial service on September 21, US President Donald Trump said slain conservative activist was a "martyr" and an American hero.

Kirk was instrumental in turning out young voters for Trump in the 2024 presidential election, but espoused multiple views that some called racist, misogynistic, anti-immigrant and transphobic.
