China Announces Sweeping Agricultural Reforms

13/10/08October 13, 2008

China's ruling Communist Party leadership approved a major economic reform plan on Sunday, which it says will boost farmers' incomes and reduce the gap between rural and urban China. Details have not yet been announced, but the cornerstone of the plan will be that farmers will be allowed to sell or lease land rights. This is expected to lead to bigger farms and more efficiency.
