The Chinese authorities finally released its statistics for the number of schoolchildren who died in last year’s earthquake in Sichuan on Thursday. The head of the province's education department told a news conference that 5,335 children had died or gone missing in the disaster. The official figures come after months of campaigning by the parents. Critics such as the prominent artist Ai Wei Wei believe the figures are inaccurate.
