Two weeks ago, a prominent defence lawyer in China, Gao Zhisheng, went missing from his home in Shaanxi province. Rights groups say he was taken away by security forces. Gao is a vocal critic of China's human rights situation and has spoken out in particular against the suppression of people belonging to the Falun Gong movement.
