Sudan: Cholera spreads in Darfur refugee camps

A two-year conflict in Sudan has displaced millions of people and triggered what the UN is calling the world's worst humanitarian crisis. Hunger and disease are spreading, with health workers now struggling to contain a severe outbreak of cholera in the refugee camps.

In Sudan's war-torn Darfur region, a deadly cholera outbreak is sweeping through overcrowded camps in Tawila, where over half a million displaced people face extreme shortages of clean water, medicine, and sanitation. With roads blocked and aid cut off, health workers are racing against time to contain the disease.
