Proposals to create a German national security council along American lines have been sharply criticized by oppostion leaders - and even from within the governing coalition of Chancellor Angela Merkel. Her conservatives say the body would improve security coordination. But one of its provisions would allow it to deploy the military for domestic operations - an idea opposed by many social democrats. +++SYN-MAZ+++
