Nigerians of different faiths have criticized US President Donald Trump’s threats of military action over what he called the killing of large numbers of Christians in the country.

Africa’s most populous country, Nigeria, which is roughly divided between a predominantly Christian south and a Muslim-majority north, faces numerous conflicts. Experts say these conflicts result in the deaths of both Christians and Muslims, often indiscriminately.

US President Donald Trump has threatened to deploy troops to Nigeria or carry out air strikes in the west African country if Abuja fails to crack down on the killing of Christians.

The threat came one day after Trump's administration added Nigeria back to a "Countries of Particular Concern" list of nations the US says have violated religious freedoms.
