From the first week of December, the Royal Route in Warsaw becomes a dazzling Christmas spectacle. Starting at the Royal Castle, the route stretches ten kilometers, making it one of the longest of its kind in the world. Gardens and parks, former palaces and large houses surround this splendid boulevard in the Polish capital.

The most famous high street in London has been adorned with glowing snowballs. The aptly named "Christmas Lights" display has taken place on Oxford Street since 1959. With around 500,000 visitors every day, Oxford Street ranks among the busiest shopping streets in Europe.

Sparkling trees at the Champs-Élysees in Paris. Europe's most famous boulevard is bathed in red light this year. Visitors can stroll along the 70 metre wide boulevard until 02 o'clock at night. The lighting of the 400 trees has a different prominent sponsor every year. In 2018 it will be Karl Lagerfeld.

Austria's capital basks in a magical, fairy tale glow. The Graben is a pedestrianized zone in the heart of the city with 17th and 18th century buildings shimmering among the Christmas illuminations. Historic coffee houses and the finest traditional shops in Vienna are to be found here, which were once purveyors to the Emperor.

Another well-known and loved shopping street - Rome's Via Condotti. Surrounded by historic Palazzi, this street contains the majority of the city's fashion houses. Each year at Christmas, romantic lights inject festive merriment into the hustle and bustle.

Characterized by majestic guild houses from the 17th century and the town hall from the 15th century, the square is the stage for surprising works of light art every year during the Christmas season and then in summer for the medieval spectacle Ommegang (June 2019). The Grand-Place in Brussels is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is considered one of the most beautiful squares in the world.

This time, blue arcs decorate the city centre of Spain's capital Madrid at Christmas time. Famous designers and architects designed the illuminations which give squares and streets a creative, festive backdrop.

With her sky of diamonds, Lucy is back in the Swiss city of Zurich. She gives her name to the traditional Christmas light display which has taken place on the Bahnhofstrasse since 2010. The street is world famous for its expensive shops, and the rental costs for retail space are the highest in Europe.

From the famous Kurfürstendamm via Tauentzienstraße to Schöneberg, light sculptures shine over a length of 4.5 kilometres. Around 600 trees are decorated with light chains with a total length of 230 kilometres (142 miles). The City West will glow until 4 January 2019.
