Uruapan Mayor Carlos Manzo, an outspoken advocate against organized crime, was shot and killed in front of dozens of onlookers during Day of the Dead celebrations. The killing prompted President Claudia Sheinbaum to call an emergency meeting of her Security Cabinet.

Mexican mayor Carlos Manzo was shot dead at a Day of the Dead festival in Uruapan, Michoacan.

The outspoken advocate against cartel violence was struck seven times and died in hospital.

His widow, Grecia Quiroz Garcia, and residents demand justice.

Authorities have linked the weapon to organized crime. Mexico's security chief, Omar Garcia Harfuch, has vowed no impunity.
