Government workers in the German states of North Rhine-Westphalia, Baden-Wurttemberg and Saxony-Anhalt engaged in warning strikes on Friday. The service industry union Verdi is demanding wage increases of more than 3 percent. More than 30,000 public workers in North Rhine-Westphalia alone participated in the warning strikes and the demonstrations that accompanied them.
