German Justice Minister Sabine Leutheuser-Schnarrenberger is making waves with her push to introduce a change in the law to put gay couples on an equal footing with heterosexual couples in terms of tax breaks. The move's opponents include the CDU's more conservative members, who believe that it would undermine the sanctity of marriage.

Only marriages between men and women ensure the propagation of life, they say.
