Noni trees need minimal water and bear fruit all year. The produce is used in traditional medicine and foods. Safoura Cissé is turning it into a sustainable industry.

Entrepreneur Safoura Ousman Cissé grows noni fruit on a two‑hectare plantation in Ségou, north of Mali’s capital Bamako. The fast‑growing trees thrive in the dry climate with minimal, solar‑powered irrigation. Noni bears fruit year‑round and is valued for its vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Cissé uses no chemical fertilizers or pesticides. She processes the fruit into juice and hopes her growing business will create jobs – all while saving water and supporting climate protection through the trees’ carbon absorption. And she has a big vision for the future, hoping to introduce noni to consumers across Mali and beyond.
