People have returned to their devastated homes in northwestern Turkey after firefighters brought the flames under control. In Spain, hundreds were evacuated after a wildfire broke out near the capital, Madrid. Fires are being fanned by a heat wave across the Mediterranean region.

Wildfires and extreme heat are ravaging southern Europe.

In northwestern Turkey, a woman mourned the loss of her farm animals after flames swept through her property. Meanwhile, in Spain, lightning and wind fueled a blaze near Madrid, forcing evacuations.

France is facing record-breaking temperatures, with residents struggling to cope. Experts have linked these escalating disasters to climate change.
