Confederations Cup by Royal Appointment
June 21, 2005Japan's Princess Takamado will attend her country's Confederations Cup football match against Brazil on Wednesday and Germany's game against Argentina 24 hours earlier, organizers said. The princess was to watch Tuesday's match between Germany and Argentina in Nuremberg before moving on to Frankfurt for the Japan game. Japan must beat World Cup holders Brazil if they are to progress to the semi-finals of the eight-nation tournament, a dress rehearsal for the 2006 World Cup finals which are also being held in Germany. The princess's husband, Prince Takamado, is the honorary president of the Japan Football Association. Japan have already qualified for the World Cup finals. German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder has said he will attend the Confederations Cup final in Frankfurt on June 29 regardless of whether Germany qualify.
