The Malaysian Prime Minister, Abdullah Badawi, has managed to create quite a bit of confusion about his future. On Friday, he said that he had agreed to hand over his post to his deputy Najib Razak. Then on Sunday he said he still hadn’t set a date for this, adding that he would definitely seek re-election as leader of the governing party. Badawi has been under pressure since March, when the ruling coalition lost its usual two-thirds majority in the general elections. Since then the opposition has ruled five states.
