Congestion in the Skies - improving air traffic management

The airspace in Germany is jammed, shows a study by researchers at the German aerospace center, or DLR. For air controllers the traffic is almost impossible to manage due to all the small aircraft. Meanwhile 20 percent of the seats in the big airliners are empty.

A new concept should be able to help by "pooling". Airlines would operate passenger pods that are loaded into the aircraft and transported by a single European carrier.
