Controversial Deal - A German natural gas storage facility and Gazprom

Wintershall, subsidiary of the Bayer chemicals giant, is selling a substantial part of Germany’s natural gas infrastructure to Gazprom, Russia’s state-run gas supplier - including the Rehden storage facility near Bremen, the largest in western Europe. In return, Wintershall is being granted direct access to Russian natural gas fields.

The deal was signed in 2013 after lengthy preparations, but the Ukrainian crisis now puts it in a different light. Report by Christian Uhlig
