COPD - a destructive lung condition

COPD - chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The word 'obstructive' in the name of the disease indicates that the bronchi are permanently and irrevocably constricted. The structure of the lungs is seriously damaged, and large chambers form in the organ's tissues that fill with air that in a healthy lung is exhaled. (emphysema).

Patients suffer from increasingly from shortness of breath. COPD is generally caused by smoking.
