As the crisis in Europe's single currency continues, DW examines the background and consequences, and charts leaders' attempts to bring the continent through economically tough times.

Many commentators have remarked that the ongoing crisis in the eurozone is the worst the continent has faced since World War II. Others have made comparisons to the global financial crisis of the 1930s.
