Cubans living in exile in Germany say they're concerned about US President Donald Trump's threats to "take control" of the island country. Interpreter Rene Limonte-Brett told DW he fears for his family back home.

The two socialist states, Cuba and the former East Germany (GDR), had close ties. By 1989, around 30,000 Cubans had relocated to the former GDR for job training and development, employment and education.

René Limonte-Brett is one of many Cuban nationals who took advantage of this opportunity. He now lives in Berlin.
