Cuba's grid falters again, triggering blackouts and unrest

Cuba's electricity grid has suffered another partial collapse, leading to power outages across eastern areas of the island. Protests broke out in Havana as power cuts lasted more than 24 hours.

Rare protests have erupted in Havana as prolonged nationwide blackouts fuel public anger. Hundreds of Cubans took to the streets, demanding electricity after outages lasting more than 40 hours disrupted daily life and spoiled food supplies.

Officials have said the country has effectively run out of fuel, blaming US sanctions for worsening shortages. As the crisis deepens, Cuba's government is now reconsidering a previously rejected US aid offer.
