Russia strikes Ukrainian power infrastructure and Ukrainians salvage operable parts to repair what's left, often only for Russian airstrikes to hit the facility again. That leaves ordinary people with only a few hours of power a day in the middle of winter.

Officials warn only stronger air defenses can prevent repeat strikes as crews race to restore electricity amid relentless bombardment and daily air raid alerts.
