Cyclone Ditwah pounds Sri Lanka with deadly force

More than 150 people have been killed as Cyclone Ditwah has been battering Sri Lanka with torrential rains that triggered flooding and landslides. Authorities declared a state of emergency.

Cyclone Ditwah has devastated Sri Lanka, causing floods, mudslides and widespread chaos. Government offices and schools shut down as rivers overflowed and roads were blocked. Air and rail travel halted.

Dozens of people were killed and tens of thousands evacuated to shelters. Military teams rescued stranded residents by helicopter and boat. Aid from India is arriving as its southern state Tamil Nadu braces for the storm's next strike.
