Dangerous Viruses - how bats may spread disease

Bats can carry many serious viruses such as Ebola, SARS and encephalitis. In some African countries, there's a high risk that these can be transmitted to humans. That's because bats are often a meal for the people who live there.

German and Ghanaian researchers are taking to the forests and deserts of western Africa to research these creatures. They want to find out how bats transmit viruses to other animals and what the dangers are for humans.
