On the Web, users can be identified via IP addresses. But there's an alternative - the darknet. It allows users to surf anonymously.

The term "darknet” first hit the headlines in October 2011, when the hacker collective "Anonymous” took down a server in India that was posting and trading child pornography. The darknet has two sides, however; while guaranteeing freedom of speech and uncontrolled data transfer, it also provides a hiding place for a variety of criminals. Two of the best-known points of entry to the darknet are the network projects "Tor” and "Freenet”.
