Delhi protesters rally for urgent action on toxic air

As breathing becomes hazardous in New Delhi, public anger has spilled into the streets, and police have detained dozens of protesters. Demonstrators accuse the government of failing to act as pollution worsens with winter approaching.

Delhi's toxic haze is fueled by vehicle exhaust, crop-burning and construction dust, then trapped by cold, stagnant winter air.

Protesters say years of government promises have brought little relief, as public anger grows in a city of more than 30 million struggling to breathe.
