Demonstrators and counter-protesters clashed in Cologne today at the start of an international "anti-Islamification congress" in the western German city. The two-day event has been organised by members of the right-wing For Cologne organizaiton. The group has used the recent approval of construction plans for a large mosque complex in Cologne to bring together other rightist groups who believe Europe is becoming increasingly" Islamicized." Some three thousand police officers are on hand to maintain order.
