Sparked by economic woes, nationwide protests have widened into broader discontent with theocratic rule in Iran. Reza Pahlavi, the exiled son of the last monarch, has urged demonstrators to reclaim public spaces.

Iran's streets remain tense as US President Donald Trump and EU leaders call on the clerical state to ensure protesters' safety amid reports of dozens of deaths.
