Twelve people have been injured after being hit by a car near a bridge crossing in Copenhagen, authorities said, with two of them being in critical condition.

According to police, an elderly man lost control over his car and hit several pedestrians and a cyclist.

Local police ruled out the possibility of the incident being a terrorist attack.

"It was a traffic accident, but a violent one with many injuries," police told local newspaper BT

Police are currently checking whether the fact the car was electric had any influence on the accident.

Several witnesses received psychological help at the scene.
