Dispute over Transition to Renewable Energy

Germany's planned transformation of its energy sector is also an increasing burden on the grand coalition. The tone is growing harsher. Bavarian State Premier Horst Seehofer and his CSU, in particular, are attacking the plans of Economics Minister Sigmar Gabriel.

Seehofer has now declared that every aspect of the transition to renewables must be scrutinized. But in his own state, mayors and citizens' groups are up in arms about planned power lines and back-pedaling on the energy turnaround.
