Donald Trump threatens military action in Nigeria

The US president says he's ordered the military to prepare for action in Nigeria, accusing the government of failing to protect Christians. Without naming specific incidents, Trump warned of a "guns-a-blazing" response unless Nigeria acts. The government says religious violence affects all faiths.

Deadly attacks on Christian communities in Nigeria have sparked global concern. In June, gunmen killed up to 200 people in the Middle Belt, reigniting tensions in a region split between Muslims and Christians. The US government has accused Nigeria of allowing a "genocide." Analysts say land disputes and insurgency — not religion alone — fuel the violence.
