Dr. Rumiana Dimova, Bulgaria

Rumiana Dimova heads a research team at the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces in Potsdam.

Her topic, which she calls vesicles, includes blood cells, egg cells, and cancer cells. She is interested in their characteristics as thin-membraned bubbles. The cell membrane determines what passes into and out of the cell. What she learns could be important in developing effective medicines.
