There are no reports of injuries and the blaze went "out on its own," authorities have said. Jewish institutions have been on high alert over fears of possible attacks since the start of the war in Iran.

Dutch police said on Friday they were looking into a fire that broke out at 3:40 a.m. local time at a synagogue in the city of Rotterdam.

"The fire burned for a short time before going out on its own," police said on social media, adding that there were no injuries.

Attacks on Jewish institutions

This is the latest suspected antisemitic incident to take place since the start of the joint US-Israeli war on Iran.

On Monday,  a synagogue in the Belgian city of Liege was hit by an explosion , in what local authorities said was an antisemitic attack, with a potentially jihadist claim-of-responsibility video being analyzed.

That attack was strongly condemned by both Belgian politicians and European Union officials

While material damage was caused, no one was injured.

In the US, a Lebanon-born US citizen crashed his truck into a synagogue and its preschool in the Detroit area, before being shot dead.

Jewish and Israeli institutions around the world have been on high alert due to fears of attacks linked to the Iran war, with the Israeli National Security Council advising the country's citizens to stay away from events and sites identified as Jewish or Israeli, while also keeping Jewish symbols "discreet."
