DW head praises Jimmy Lai's commitment to press freedom

Jimmy Lai was the founder of Apple Daily, a platform that allowed journalists free reporting and that became a voice of the democracy movement in Hong Kong. Lai, who was detained in 2020, was sentenced to 20 years in prison earlier this year.
Deutsche Welle's Freedom of Speech Award has recognized media figures or initiatives for their commitment to promoting free speech since 2015.
