A deadly Ebola strain in the Democratic Republic of Congo has killed 100 people. With no vaccine and funding cuts slowing the response, epidemiologists like Eric Feigl-Ding warn it could become a "perfect storm."

Dozens have died in a new Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo's Ituri province, with cases likely spreading weeks before the official announcement.

The highly contagious Bundibugyo strain, which has no vaccine, has already reached the capital, Kinshasa, and neighboring Uganda.

Limited testing suggests the true scale of the outbreak may be far larger, with experts warning conflict, displacement and poor access are making containment increasingly difficult.

Central Africa has contended with the Ebola virus for decades. DW speaks with epidemiologist Eric Feigl-Ding about how this Ebola outbreak is different than previous incidents.
