Ebola continues to spread rapidly in the Democratic Republic Congo, with fears rising that it could cross borders. Over 5000 cases have been confirmed, along with nearly 2500 deaths.

Health agencies are struggling to contain a rapidly growing outbreak of the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Response efforts are being hindered by fear and mistrust among local communities, including attacks on health workers and ambulances.

Officials say there is currently no approved vaccine for this strain, leaving isolation and supportive care as the main tools to limit infections. Aid groups warn the outbreak is spreading faster than previous Ebola crises, while experts also fear cross-border transmission to neighboring countries.
