Organized by a Ugandan NGO, children in Kampala and Munich took to the streets to call for climate action. Plus: How compulsory community work in Burundi boosts environmental protection.

Drums, chants and handmade signs fill the streets of Kampala and Munich as children lead a cross‑continental climate march. In April 2026, thousands of schoolchildren in Uganda’s capital demanded climate justice, cleaner cities and a healthy environment. Trained as “green ambassadors” by Little Hands Go Green, children like nine‑year‑old Melissa teach peers to collect plastic waste and plant trees. From clogged drains and uncollected rubbishin Kampala to bike‑friendly streets in Munich, the message is shared live across continents: Our environment is our future. With calls for better waste management, clean water, more trees and fewer emissions, young activists show that climate action starts early—and now.
