Edward Snowden steps to the podium

The intelligence leaker kept a low profile after fleeing the US in mid-2013, but he's increasingly reaching out to the public. DW reviews his recent statements along with developments concerning the NSA's activities.

After leaking confidential documents in mid-2013 relating to surveillance activities by the US National Security Agency (NSA), Edward Snowden initially kept a low profile. In recent weeks, however, he has reached out increasingly to the media and the public, issuing a Christmas message, hosting an online chat and sitting down with German broadcaster NDR for his first television interview, broadcast originally in Germany on January 27.
