Egypt is one of the world's biggest date producers. Now the millions of tons of palm waste have caught the eye of young entrepreneurs who have found new ways of reusing it and benefiting local communities, too.

As one of the world's largest date producers, Egypt generates millions of tons of palm waste every year — and most of it is burned or discarded.

But there's a growing movement to change that: from a Dahshur eco-farm reviving ancient crafts and turning every leaf into useful products, to Cairo design studios creating contemporary furniture from fronds, and scientists developing biodegradable materials for packaging and insulation.

It's a journey where tradition, creativity and science meet — showing that sustainability isn't new, and that the answers to our future may lie in the roots of our past.
