Egypt has welcomed the decision by a Dresden court to sentence a Russian-German man to life in prison without parole for the murder of a pregnant Egyptian woman. 28 year old Alex Wiens was convicted after stabbing Marwa El-Sherbini to death during a courtroom hearing in Dresden in July. However, members of the woman's family have criticised the outcome. They say those responsible for the lapse in security which allowed Wiens to bring a knife into court should also have been called to account.
