Pakistan's chief election commissioner has announced that the country's general election has been delayed six weeks until February 18 in the wake of the assassination of opposition leader, Benazir Bhutto. Opposition parties criticised the delay but both Bhutto's Pakistan People's Party and that of her rival, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, said they would stand in the poll.
