In the United States the democrats made history on wednesday night when they formally nominated Barack Obama as the first black presidential candidate. The move came in a dramatic gesture by Hillary Clinton, who halted a roll-call vote and suggested that Obama be nominated by acclamation. Senator Joe Biden also received the vice presidential nomination by acclamation. And in his acceptance speech, he praised Obama as the person the United States needs during tough economic times.
