The revolutions in northern Africa have given the new Desertec renewable energy project a big boost. Tunisia has promised transfer of technology and plenty of new jobs.

Tunisia's transitional government has dedicated important resources to the Desertec renewable energy project, taking important steps to build massive solar and wind energy facilities. The energy would be stored in Tunisia's grid and then shipped to neighboring countries and even Europe. Desertec could provide the foundation for a valuable economic partnership between Europe and the Arab world - especially as Europeans increasingly turn away from nuclear energy in favor of a renewable future.
