# A first session of peace talks between Israeli and Palestinian leaders has wrapped up at the State Department in Washington. Shortly after, US Middle East peace envoy George Mitchell described the talks as productive. Thursday's meeting marked the first time in 20 months that the two sides have held formal negotiations. US president Barack Obama has set a timeline of one year to hammer out a new peace deal.
