Many Canadians are rethinking their relationship with the US amid the trade war and political uncertainty. They are thinking twice about where products they buy come from. Should Canada look more to Europe?

US President Donald Trump's trade war and repeated attacks on Canadian sovereignty are prompting some Canadians to look beyond the United States and strengthen ties with Europe. In the border city of Kingston, businesses report rising domestic support as Canadians shift spending away from the US. Residents and experts argue Canada must reduce its economic dependence on its southern neighbor, despite deep trade and defense links. In St. John's, the North American city closest to Europe, business leaders and locals see Europe as a natural partner, citing shared values, historic connections and growing trade opportunities. DW's Katharina Kroll reports from Kingston and St. John's.
