In Brussels, EU defense ministers have pledged to continue the search for a way to support Ukraine financially. Kyiv's European allies have been largely excluded from US-led negotiations on a Ukraine peace deal.

EU defense ministers are struggling to stay influential in Ukraine peace talks as the US takes the lead. Fewer than half attended a key Brussels meeting, many sending junior delegates.

EU leaders have insisted Ukraine shouldn't be forced to cede land or weaken its military, but fear pressure will fall on Kyiv. With billions in frozen Russian assets and looming reconstruction costs, Europe is seeking a stronger voice in shaping any future deal.
