EU slaps record fine on bank cartel

A cartel of international banks secretly conspired to fix interest rates. For doing so the European Commission has fined them with a record 1.7 billion euros. The benchmark rates involved are the London interbank rate Libor, the Tokyo interbank rate Tibor, and the euro area equivalent Euribor.
