EU Trade Commissioner hails 'historic' India-EU trade deal

The India-EU free trade agreement spans several sectors and cuts high import tariffs on European wine and cars. EU Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic told DW the bloc aims to double trade with India in the coming years.

After nearly two decades of talks, India and the European Union have concluded a free trade agreement aimed at deepening economic and strategic ties.

Speaking in New Delhi, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the deal creates "a free-trade zone of two billion people, with both sides set to benefit."
